The President of the Cameroon Bar Association informs Advocates and Advocates in Training that at his request, the Bar Council borne of the recent elections was received by the Minister of State, Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals, at the Ministry of Justice on Tuesday 26 August 2025.
This reception, which has become customary, was an occasion to present thePresident, the Vice-President of the General Assembly as well as the newly elected members of the Bar Council to the Minister of Justice. It took place in a convivial atmosphere over a lunch offered by the Minister of State, who was accompanied at this event not only by his closest collaborators from the Ministry of Justice but also by the judicial authorities of the Special Criminal Court and the
Court of Appeal of the Center Region.
During this ceremony, the President of the Cameroon Bar Association, in his address revisited a number of key concerns of the legal profession, notably: the issue of discipline for which he opined, a preliminary solution could be found in the adoption of the pending law amending our organic law; the issue of corruption within the justice system; the issue of harassment by police, gendarmerie and prison authorities with the need to effectively revive the joint commission bringing together the Cameronn Bar Association, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of defence and the General Delegation for National Security (Bar Association/MINJUSTICE/MINDEF/DGSN). The Bar President also raised the very topical issue of the Decree of 16 July 2025 to regulate and organise the profession of Notary Public in Cameroon, which has a significant negative impact on legal practice in the North-West and South-West regions.

The Minister of State, Minister of Justice, keeper of the seals listened attentively to these concerns and promised to continue with his previous engagements with the Bar Council, to work towards resolving them. As evidence of his particular attention to issues affecting the profession, he himself raised other matters
previously submitted by the President of the Bar, to wit, the construction of the Bar headquarters and the assistance requested from government for that purpose, which he promised to facilitate; as well as the project regarding the creation of a Law School in Cameroon for which he indicated that he awaits proposals from the President of the Bar.
This reception, which ended with the traditional group photographs, once again allows us to look forward with hope to the resolution of issues within the competence of the Ministry of Justice, issues which hinder the dispensation of justice and, consequently, the improvement of the conditions of our professional
practice.
